Jeremy Geddes

Photorealism

Jeremy Geddes was born in 1974 in Wellington, New Zealand.
Jeremy is widely known for the Cosmonaut series of paintings, and has illustrated for comic book covers, in collaboration with friend Ashley Wood.
His characters seem to appear in the precise juncture of a fragmented moment and space “…generating a tension between man-made environments in flux and the fragility of living bodies.”
Jeremy’ highly-detailed paintings often take months to complete. “It can be frustrating when they begin to drag and I have other images I want to get to, but I find it impossible to leave paintings in state that I feel could be improved, so I have little choice but to press on,” he explains.

He studied painting at The University of Melbourne, Victorian College of the Arts, receiving a BFA in 1995 and an MFA in 1997.
Jeremy won the Spectrum Gold Award for his cover art for the comic, Doomed.
His children’s picture book, The Mystery of Eilean Mor, was shortlisted for The Aurealis Awards, won The Crichton Award, and was named as one of CBC Notable Books in 2006.
