With a touch of lace in all her work, Warsaw-based artist NeSpoon Polska has been applying her signature patterns to everything from stenciled street art, to site-specific ceramics and web-like crochet installations (spiders take note). Her work has a friendly and welcoming aesthetic which beatifies and enhances the often decrepit environment they occupy.
Working with that in mind, she calls her artistic approach the “Jewellery of the urban space”.
NeSpoon often uses the usual spray paint and stencils of enlarged lace patterns to produce her works on the street.
But she also makes lace installations for gallery art events or simply fill the blanks in urban areas with pottery.
Her form of ‘yarn bombing’ is especially refreshing. Instead of embracing the trend for sweater-like coverings on the objects they inhabit, her works create expansive new structures suspended in space.
Her soft geometric forms float, bright like snowflakes, in the midst of neglect.
